Objective of this pilot

Arad’s priorities for the next years are furthering the city’s sustainable development, primarily in terms of urban mobility, green spaces and the energy sector, in close association with efforts to engage the community and stakeholders.

The city’s main objectives in urban mobility are:

Develop transport infrastructure according to the connection needs in the European, national, regional and local territory;

  • Improve and develop the road infrastructure and optimize traffic;
  • Develop alternative transport and increase public area accessibility for pedestrians;
  • Improve public transport services;
  • Improve and develop the rail transport infrastructure;
  • Improve and develop the air transport infrastructure;
  • Start assessing the navigability of the Mureș river proposed by the NTLP (National Territory Landscaping Plan)
  • Increase the quality of urban public areas;
  • Reduce air pollution.

Arad’s mobility vision is anchored in its strategic documents. The main tools the city has at hand are proposed by the Integrated Urban Development Strategy 2014-2030, coupled with the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan 2016 – 2023 and the Transport and Traffic Masterplan for Arad. Mobility measures are also included in the City’s Green Strategy and Health Development Plan.

In the context of Sprout Project, Arad wishes to start improving the use of these tools by adding both new innovative measures and practice-based models in support of the local administration’s ambition to develop, implement and monitor sustainable mobility policies and actions.
