Valencia installs within its metro stations the first e-lockers to collect online shopping in 2 of the busiest points of its metro network

The last quarter saw the installation of e-lockers in Valencia’s metro stations, which allow online shopping to be collected at the two busiest points in the city’s metro network. The first e-lockers are being installed on two of the main stations of the city centre of Valencia, Colon and Xátiva stations.  As they are outside the platform access barriers, they can be used even by passers-by who are not going to get on the metro. These online shopping pick-up solutions avoid last-mile transport in cities by reducing traffic and therefore GHG emissions, noise, congestion and the problems caused by badly parked vehicles delivering parcels. For their part, it allows customers to pick up their purchases conveniently, without having to worry about timetables and on the way to their destinations.

With regard to the Cicloparcs, these private bicycle parkings are located in metro stations in the metropolitan area, the two linked to the SPROUT project are in operation at Torrent Avinguda and Empalme on the FGV network in Valencia. This initiative is completely in line with the regional government’s sustainable mobility policies to boost non-polluting means of transport and  to improve the intermodality in metropolitan mobility. For this reason, it has been decided to replicate this private bicycle parking solution in several other stations and two more have already been installed in Quart de Poblet and Alboraya Peris Aragó, both in Valencia, and one more in Alicante, in Valencia Region with more to follow. Thanks to this solution, citizens living in metropolitan areas will have the possibility to reach metro station by bike, improving the intermodality between the metro and the bike.

The technical team working on this pilot is studying the impact of the pilot using data on the use of these solutions and user surveys.
